About The Position

This role focuses on providing support and technical assistance for learning resources, particularly for students with disabilities. The Specialist will work with instructional and support personnel, school administrators, parents, and staffing specialists to ensure the effective provision of special education services, modifications, and accommodations as outlined in Individual Educational Plans (IEPs). The position also involves providing direct services to students to help them progress towards their IEP goals and attending required meetings and trainings.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution.
  • Three (3) years of Highly Effective/Effective experience teaching in an area of Exceptional Student Education (ESE).
  • Valid Florida teaching certification in one or more areas of special education.
  • Clear and concise oral and written communication skills.
  • Analytical, mathematical, organizational, and prioritization skills.
  • Flexibility and adaptability in dealing with rapidly changing priorities and demands.
  • Knowledge of and the ability to interpret and enforce pertinent regulations, policies, and procedures for the functional area of assignment.
  • Knowledge of and experience using multiple project management tools and methodologies.
  • Knowledge of HIPAA, Public Records, Sunshine Law, FERPA, and other laws/regulations related to student and employee privacy, public information, and records retention.
  • Ability to communicate technical information to technical and non-technical personnel.
  • Ability to deliver high-quality customer service in a timely and professional manner.

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s degree preferred.
  • Dual special education/regular education certification preferred.
  • Other program specific certifications, endorsements, and/or licenses preferred, such as behavior analysis, gifted, and speech-language pathology.
  • Proven experience successfully managing business/department functions and staff preferred.
  • Industry certification preferred.
  • Lean Six Sigma Certification preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Provide staff development technical assistance and consultation services to instructional/support personnel and school administrators in areas relating to achieving academic and behavioral success for students with disabilities.
  • Collaborate with school personnel, parents, and staffing specialists to ensure the provision of special education services, related services, modifications, and accommodations as indicated on each student’s Individual Educational Plan (IEP).
  • Provide direct services to students with disabilities as required to ensure educational benefit and allow the students to progress towards the goals on their IEPs.
  • Attend meetings and inservice trainings with the ESE Director/designee a minimum of two (2) times per month.
  • Attend meetings representing the District as the ESE Director’s designee as determined appropriate by the ESE Director.
