About The Position

The HSE Specialist will be responsible for championing GoalZERO behaviors across all employees and contract personnel at the site and driving continuous improvement. This position will also be responsible for driving compliance with local, state, and federal health & safety regulations along with other site and company standards. The job responsibilities will require regularly interfacing with a diverse group of customers, including Engineering, Operations, Maintenance, Site Leadership, and external Regulatory Agencies.

Requirements

  • Willing to work temporary shift-hours to provide safety support during turnarounds, outages, or major projects.
  • Willing to be on the rotating On-Call Duty schedule for Health & Safety.
  • Provide heavy field presence to audit Health & Safety practices / procedures and verify field compliance.
  • Experience in implementing changes and processes necessary to comply with regulations and site / company requirements.
  • Provide safety support to specific areas of the organization as part of the primary duties.
  • Responsible for providing and documenting safety related training to assigned areas of the organization.
  • Effectively manage budget in areas of responsibilities by applying cost discipline principles.
  • Must be a team player, willing to take on various team tasks as needed.
  • High School Diploma or equivalent, required
  • Minimum 4 years of Operations, Maintenance, or similar experience in a Petrochemical environment
  • Direct experience and in-depth knowledge of Occupational Safety programs and other safety policies
  • English, required
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong ability to develop and present safety training in group settings
  • Demonstrates a desire to advance GoalZERO performance
  • Ability to represent the site and the company with regulatory agencies
  • Ability to effectively manage multiple tasks, often with competing priorities
  • Adaptable to evolving tasks and areas of focus based on business demand

Nice To Haves

  • Associate or Bachelor degree, preferred
  • Safety related training / certifications, preferred
  • Additional language is a plus

Responsibilities

  • Support and lead Health & Safety programs including Behavior Based Safety, Life Critical Procedures, contractor safety, audit programs, regulatory compliance, and Operational Excellence initiatives.
  • Serve as a safety resource for management, operations, maintenance, and contractors.
  • Serve as Subject Matter Expert for assigned safety programs and Life Critical Procedures.
  • Provide dedicated safety support to assigned operating units.
  • Act as a liaison with contractors and service providers to ensure compliance with Health & Safety practices / procedures.
  • Understand foundational Health & Safety concepts, regulations, and standards and act as a champion for compliance and improvement.
  • Monitor the site Health & Safety performance and track progress.
  • Lead or participate in informal and formal incident investigations.
  • Lead Health & Safety improvement initiatives.
  • Develop, deliver, and document safety training.
  • Develop a knowledge of the operating units and processes to which the regulations and requirements must be applied.
  • Conduct field observations and compliance audits.
  • Play a support, liaison, or full role as a member of the Emergency Response Team.
