Under the supervision of the assigned health and nutrition coordinator, the health services specialist shall be responsible to conduct screenings and arrange for follow-up treatment and ongoing care of enrolled children in accordance with state and federal guidelines. This role involves identifying children and families with health and nutrition-related problems, assisting with nutritional status assessments, conducting and documenting observations of children, and making appropriate referrals to agencies with timely follow-up. The specialist will update and document efforts in the program data management system, maintain confidential child records, and process/track dental services referrals. Additionally, the role supports the development and implementation of parent education activities, collaborates with local health care providers and community agencies to ensure accessibility of services, and monitors health services while providing technical assistance to site staff. Responsibilities also include conducting health and safety site visits, maintaining first aid kits, coordinating and providing training, inputting and verifying child and family information into a computerized system, responding to information requests, distributing and managing medical/dental supplies, monitoring hearing and vision testing equipment, and maintaining record-keeping systems for program reviews and audits. Attendance at various meetings and training sessions is also required, along with other assigned duties.
