National Grid is hiring a Specialist, Field Safety for our Field Safety department. This role can sit in either our Leeds (Northampton), MA or Worchester MA location. The Specialist supports the promotion of a strong safety culture by partnering with local leadership teams to implement incident prevention initiatives and regulatory compliance activities that protect National Grid employees, contractors, and the public. This role provides guidance, coaching, and safety support to field operations while helping ensure compliance with company policies and applicable regulations.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree required; Occupational Safety, Environmental Health & Safety, or related field preferred.
  • 3+ years of occupational safety-related experience required.
  • Utility, construction, industrial, or field operations experience preferred.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of OSHA regulations and safety management principles.
  • Progress toward professional safety certification (ASP, CHST, OHST, CUSP, or equivalent) preferred.
  • OSHA 30 certification preferred.
  • Strong communication, presentation, and relationship-building skills.
  • Ability to influence safety performance through coaching and collaboration.
  • Valid driver's license required.

Responsibilities

  • Build effective working relationships with local leadership teams, employees, and union representatives to support the implementation of safety policies, programs, and action plans.
  • Conduct field observations, job site visits, and safety assessments to identify risks and opportunities for continuous improvement.
  • Provide coaching and guidance to employees and supervisors on safe work practices and regulatory requirements.
  • Respond to and support resolution of field safety concerns and incidents.
  • Assist in the delivery of safety leadership sessions, training programs, presentations, and awareness campaigns.
  • Participate in safety committee meetings and operations meetings to communicate key safety initiatives and lessons learned.
  • Support incident investigations and the Incident Analysis process by gathering information and identifying contributing factors.
  • Monitor incident and near-miss trends and assist in developing recommendations to improve safety performance.
  • Support audits, inspections, and compliance activities related to state, federal, and company safety requirements.
  • Maintain required safety records, reports, and documentation.
