About The Position

The Facilities Specialist is a crucial role in the operations of the LASPCA, covering five main facets: General repairs and Maintenance, Fleet and Vehicle maintenance, Contract Execution, Janitorial, and Grounds and Landscaping. This role will also include the maintenance and upkeep of equipment, fleet, and machinery used.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Pass a criminal background check.
  • Pass a pre-employment physical and substance screening.
  • Be 25 years or older.
  • Possess a valid driver's license.
  • Possess a clean driving record.
  • Flexibility and availability as needed, especially for storm response.
  • Ability to work at the shelter during evacuations.
  • Ability to lift at least 50 pounds.
  • Ability to push and pull heavy objects.
  • Ability to bend, twist, and reach.
  • Ability to perform strenuous physical activities including frequent walking and running, standing, bending, and stooping.
  • Willingness and ability to drive a large capacity vehicle, forklift, and other machinery.
  • No allergies to animals or nut products.
  • Ability to work around all animals.
  • Ability to work with industrial strength cleaners and disinfectants.

Nice To Haves

  • Some college education.
  • Facility maintenance/janitorial experience.
  • CDL license.
  • Forklift operator license.

Responsibilities

  • Manage time and resources to ensure all public and office areas are clean and well-maintained, including trash collection and refilling dispensers.
  • Provide janitorial services for shelter buildings, including daily cleaning and sanitizing of floors, hallways, and public restrooms.
  • Organize shelter inventory and ensure departments receive adequate supplies on time.
  • Maintain equipment and machinery, perform preventative maintenance, and report any necessary repairs or replacements.
  • Manage all deliveries, ensuring accuracy, signing for packages, and distributing them to correct locations.
  • Maintain the grounds on the campus, including lawn and parking lot areas, and perform daily removal of trash and debris.
  • Assist with Animal Transportations and pick up materials and inventory as needed.
  • Act as a core team member in storm and emergency weather response, taking appropriate action for animal comfort and facility security, and being available to come to the shelter.
  • Treat all animals humanely, properly, and with compassion.
  • Maintain a professional and friendly demeanor, providing excellent customer service.
  • Work courteously and cooperatively with other staff members and volunteers.
  • Perform any other duties as required.
