About The Position

The Specialist, Corporate Accounting is responsible for providing dedicated technical accounting expertise and support for the organization's transition to International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS). Reporting to the CFAO or their senior delegate, the position works closely with the Accounting team to support the preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements and ensure IFRS-related requirements are effectively incorporated into accounting operations and financial reporting processes. The Specialist is responsible for developing technical accounting analyses, IFRS transition working papers, financial statement support schedules, and accounting documentation required to facilitate a successful transition to IFRS. The position plays a key role in reducing transition risk by providing specialized accounting knowledge, supporting implementation activities, and facilitating the transfer of technical accounting knowledge to the Finance & Accounting team to ensure IFRS-related practices are embedded within the future-state structure and ongoing operations of the organization.

Requirements

  • Undergraduate degree in Accounting, Finance, Commerce, or a related discipline from a recognized university.
  • Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) designation required.
  • Advanced training or demonstrated expertise in International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS) required.
  • Minimum 7 years of progressively responsible accounting and financial reporting experience.
  • Significant experience interpreting and applying International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS).
  • Demonstrated experience preparing technical accounting analyses, accounting position papers, and financial statement disclosures.
  • Experience supporting accounting standards implementation projects, IFRS transitions, or other major accounting transformation initiatives.
  • Experience preparing financial statements and working directly with external auditors.
  • Experience developing accounting policies, procedures, and documentation.
  • Advanced technical accounting and financial reporting expertise.
  • Strong knowledge and application of International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS).
  • Excellent analytical, research, and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to accuracy.
  • Ability to interpret complex accounting requirements and communicate them effectively to non-technical audiences.
  • Strong written communication and documentation skills.

  • Experience with ERP systems, preferably Microsoft Dynamics 365.
  • Experience with financial reporting and disclosure preparation tools.
  • Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.
  • Ability to obtain a Government of Canada Personnel Screening/Security Clearance.
  • Ability to travel within Ontario and Michigan.
