About The Position

Canadian Blood Services is looking for a Regular part-time Specialist-Cord Blood Collection to join their dynamic Stem Cells team. The Stem Cells team is responsible for collecting umbilical ex-utero cord and maternal blood samples, and ensure promotion, development and maintenance of an environment of continuous quality improvement, in accordance with regulatory and accreditation standards and customer satisfaction. The Collection Specialist will be responsible for collections at the The Ottawa Hospital General Campus ON. In addition, they will be responsible for promoting and maintaining public awareness/promotion and education as well as maintaining positive working relationships with internal and external stakeholders.

Requirements

Completion of accredited training program in phlebotomy or related experience.
Basic computer skills and the ability to learn new systems and programs.
Excellent interpersonal skills, team building and ability to collaborate in a multi-disciplinary team setting as a non-hospital employee in a hospital setting.
Must be able to work independently, identify issues and provide resolutions to problems at the hospital.

Responsibilities

Assemble and prepare supplies, equipment, and necessary documentation at hospital collection site to support efficient and accurate cord blood collections.
Perform ex-utero umbilical cord blood and maternal blood sample collections, ensuring safety and compliance with all standards.
Perform quality control of equipment and supplies, maintain calibration records, and ensure all documentation is thoroughly completed.
Participate in root cause analysis and assist with quality event investigations to support continuous improvement initiatives.
Liaise with hospital staff to maintain effective collaboration and ensure consistent opportunities for cord blood collection are maximized.
