About The Position

Plan and perform diversified operations required to set up and operate CNC numerical controlled lathes and/or machining centers. Work involves the assignment to any one or more of the CNC work centers proving out computer programs, collaborating with Product Engineering on prototype work, and initial tryout. Work may also involve the assignment to any one or more of the secondary machines in the department, including manual turret lathes, engine lathes, radial drills, multi-spindle drills, vertical turret lathes, and miscellaneous assembly and test equipment. The specialist will help in the development of new machine programs, first run trials and recommendations on operation sequence, speeds, feeds, cycle times, and tooling requirements, working closely with the CNC programmer/Cost estimator. The specialist will have the ability to program and edit programs when supervision is not available. The specialist is expected to edit and input correction to computer control console, Greco unit, or department PC to revise program and enter application data to part program. In order to qualify for this classification, the operator must meet the qualification set out in the requirements of CNC Specialist. Ability to comply with all safety and ISO requirements.

Requirements

  • Demonstrate satisfactory knowledge of the use of necessary inspection equipment such as micrometers and vernier calipers to Quality Control.
  • Define and set up new tools, including tool geometry, pocket placement, and offset usage.
  • Explain the concepts of “Tools Offsets”.
  • Explain the concepts of “Machine Zero” and describe possible methods for adjusting the zero position.
  • GED or technical degrees required.
  • Ability to use advanced shop mathematics.
  • 3 or more years in CNC experience.
