About The Position

We are currently seeking a Specialist, Analytical Chemistry to join our Research and Innovation team in Mississauga. As a Specialist, Analytical Chemistry, you will provide advanced technical leadership within the Analytical Services group, serving as a recognized technical authority across multiple advanced analytical disciplines. In this role, you will deliver high‑quality, reliable chemical analysis in support of Vale Base Metals Operations. You will be accountable for complex and non‑routine chemical analyses, analytical method development and optimization, and the technical oversight of analytical methodologies and documentation. As a subject matter expert, you will serve as a primary technical resource for internal and external stakeholders, support operational problem‑solving across multiple sites, and ensure analytical practices remain aligned with evolving business needs and industry best practices. This is a permanent, on‑site position.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry or a related field is required.
  • Minimum of 10 years of relevant analytical laboratory experience
  • Strong collaboration and relationship‑building skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to influence technical direction and champion innovation and change.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Strong organizational, interpersonal, problem‑solving, and analytical skills.
  • Hands‑on experience with modern analytical instrumentation and laboratory techniques used in geochemical analysis
  • Willingness to travel to operations as required.

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s degree is considered an asset.
  • Experience in a geochemical analytical laboratory supporting mining operations is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Comply with all Vale safety policies and procedures and lead by example.
  • Independently perform routine and complex chemical analyses using a broad range of analytical techniques, ensuring high standards of quality, accuracy, efficiency, and safety.
  • Review, approve, and provide technical oversight for test methods, SOPs, and related documentation within assigned analytical disciplines.
  • Assess, monitor, and optimize analytical method performance, identifying improvement opportunities and ensuring methodologies remain fit‑for‑purpose.
  • Maintain awareness of emerging analytical technologies, instrumentation, and equipment; evaluate applicability and develop technical recommendations to support capital investment decisions.
  • Stay current with analytical best practices across Vale Base Metals Operations and the broader industry, maintaining a strong understanding of operational processes and their impact on analytical requirements.
  • Act as the primary technical point of contact for internal and external stakeholders, engaging as needed to resolve technical issues, clarify requirements, and support decision‑making.
  • Provide on‑site and remote technical support to Vale Base Metals Operations, including troubleshooting, method development, and specialized analytical support.
  • Develop and deliver technical training and facilitate knowledge transfer to analytical personnel as required.
