About The Position
The Peoria Police Department is seeking highly motivated individuals, who are already certified, to work for the City of Peoria as full time Special Victim Unit (SVU) Detectives. Qualified applicants will be contacted on an individual basis to schedule appointments for the background investigation. Lateral, full-time Police Officers have the ability to earn paid time off (up to 80 hours) based on previous experience in the same job function through our Award Leave program, if eligible.
Requirements
- Already certified
- Worked at least three of the last five years as a Detective
- Successfully complete Detective FTO (SVU) training
- Successfully complete Patrol FTO training (abbreviated)
Nice To Haves
- Experience working as an SVU Detective
- Experience investigating child and/or adult sex crimes
Responsibilities

- Assist with filling staffing shortages in Patrol
- Work occasional overtime shifts in Patrol
