About The Position

Under limited supervision, the Special Services Assistant ("SSA") primarily provides room configuration and event set-up services in support of the Perelman School of Medicine buildings. Assigned by the DS Supervisor or Sr Coordinator, the SSA’s daily tasks are based on room schedules, service requests, and Distribution Services operational need. The SSA interacts closely with customers (including VIP customers) and with Scheduling and Event Services (“SES”) staff to ensure that services performed meet required expectations. The SSA is required to work overtime before and after regularly scheduled hours as well as during weekends, often with little notice, in support of after-hours events. The SSA may be required to act in a lead capacity. This job requires walking, standing, use of standard tools, lifting, and moving of often-delicate equipment between 100-500 pounds. The job requires the ability to lift 50 pounds unassisted. Must be physically able to perform all functions of this position. This position is considered "essential."

Requirements

  • Minimum of a High School diploma.
  • 3 to 5 years of experience or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Ability to frequently lift and move heavy objects weighing 25-50 pounds or more.
  • Physically able to move about actively.
  • Must not be bothered by unpleasant odors.
  • Mechanical aptitude (may use tools requiring high dexterity as required in performance of job duties).
  • Customer service and team oriented.
  • Able to interface and communicate with people at various organizational levels.
  • Ability to read, write, perform basic arithmetic, and follow verbal and written instructions.
  • Highly organized in work assignment and performance.
  • Must be able to work overtime on short notice.
  • Ability to lift 50 pounds unassisted.
  • Must be physically able to perform all functions of this position.

  • Technical School, Certification, training or apprenticeship beyond High School is a plus.
