About The Position

Builds, repairs, and maintains metal equipment and structures of various sizes. Performs tasks involving design and labor for all types of concrete-related construction projects. This role is full-time and pays $30.54 per hour. Requirements

  • High school diploma/GED required.
  • Completion of an Associate Degree in Welding Program/Vocational School in a similar technical program required; four years’ experience as a Certified Welder may be substituted for degree requirement.
  • Two additional years of experience in metal fabrication required.
  • Must verbally and hands-on test to demonstrate proficiency in fabrication, structural and pipe welding, and industrial or general contracting concrete work required.
  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.
  • Ability to write simple correspondence.
  • Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.
  • Ability to add and subtract and to multiply and divide.
  • Uses mathematics to solve problems.
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
  • Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
  • Regularly required to stand; use hands to finger, handle, or feel and talk or hear.
  • Frequently required to reach with hands and arms.
  • Occasionally required to walk; sit; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl and smell.
  • Must regularly lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
  • Must enter confined spaces.
  • Specific vision abilities required include close vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.

Responsibilities

  • Ensuring personal safety and the safety of team members.
  • Assisting supervisors and managers in maintaining a safe and healthy work environment.
  • Wearing appropriate PPE, which may include fall protection, respiratory protection, hearing protection, foot, hand, head, and eye protection.
  • Using proper lifting and ergonomic techniques.
  • Reading work orders or receiving oral instructions to determine work assignments, material, or equipment.
  • Working under limited supervision using standardized practices and/or methods.
  • Following detailed job-specific instructions to ensure processes and procedures are followed efficiently and productively.
  • Operating metal fabrication equipment in compliance with proper operating procedures using MIG, TIG, ARC welding processes.
  • Cutting and joining metal components using various tools including TIG welder, MIG welder, plasma cutter, chop saw, oxyacetylene torch, and hand grinder.
  • Reading and interpreting blueprints or welding process specifications.
  • Producing a variety of parts to specifications from shop drawings.
  • Determining proper set up of tooling and jigs.
  • Positioning, aligning, fitting, and welding parts to form complete units or subunits, following blueprints and layout specifications, and using jigs, welding torches, and tools.
  • Fabricating components for engineering specifications using engineering drawings, measuring devices, calculators, etc.
  • Designing and creating holding jigs that aid in the proper fabrication of parts to meet basic production requirements.
  • Building, erecting, and aligning forms for various concrete structures and foundations.
  • Estimating concrete quantities and appropriate mixes of sand and cement if hand mixed.
  • Preparing sites by grading and building forms to shape structures.
  • Aligning forms for structures, patching voids, and using saws to cut expansion joints.
  • Performing duties of cutting and placing reinforcing wire mesh, and brushing in accordance with specifications.
  • Recording production, repair, and machine maintenance information.
  • Working with the team to reduce/eliminate bottlenecks to reach team goals.
  • Working on continuous improvement projects.
  • Recording problems that occur, analyzing root cause, and recommending actions to be taken.
  • Proactively promoting The McWane Way Principles.
