About The Position

The Special Projects Coordinator will work within the NYC DOT’s Commissioner Correspondence unit (CCU), which serves as the Commissioner’s central hub for customer service and communication processing. The CCU supports various Divisions by processing and tracking concerns and correspondence related to large-scale agency-wide projects and initiatives. This includes handling communications from the NYC DOT’s public-facing website, the Mayor’s office, the 311 Call Center, social media, and hard copy mail addressed to the Commissioner. The unit utilizes a Customer Relationship Management (CRM) application called the Agency Response Tracking System (ARTS) to assign requests and cases to the appropriate Operational Units. The candidate will specifically coordinate special projects for the CCU.

Requirements

  • A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college and two years of experience in community work or community centered activities in an area related to the duties described above
  • High school graduation or equivalent and six years of experience in community work or community centered activities in an area related to the duties as described above
  • Education and/or experience which is equivalent to the above, with all candidates required to have at least one year of experience as described in the first option

Responsibilities

  • Supervising a team of two to three staff members, reviewing and managing their workload related to incoming speed hump and traffic signal cases
  • Analyzing data using DOT systems such as SWOTS and GeoTab to assess the feasibility of speed hump and traffic signal requests
  • Monitoring and evaluating staff workload to ensure all studies and installations comply with current DOT standards, guidelines, and criteria
  • Creating additional ARTS cases based on internal and external requests
  • Preparing notification letters on behalf of the appropriate Borough Commissioners and coordinating distribution to relevant parties
  • Collaborating with NYC DOT operational units, including RIS and Signal ICU, to support implementation of Local Law 113 and its integration into the ARTS system
  • Working directly with various DOT units to provide support on special projects and related initiatives
  • Managing mail merges for agency outreach and engagement efforts tied to special projects
  • Performing other related duties, tasks, and projects as needed
