About The Position

Fort Bend County is seeking a Special Projects Coordinator for its Permits/Construction department within Engineering. Requirements

  • High School Diploma/GED and 2 years of college level courses.
  • 5 years of job experience in construction, permitting or other related activity.
  • Ability to read construction drawings.
  • Communication and conflict resolution skills to explain projects.
  • Extensive knowledge of computers and software such as databases, spreadsheets and word processors.
  • Interpersonal skills and ability to deal effectively with the public, other employees, and elected officials.
  • Ability to complete assignments in a timely manner.
  • Texas Floodplain Management Association (TFMA) Certification must be obtained within one year of employment.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain a sound working knowledge of the general and technical provisions of the Fort Bend County Regulations for Floodplain Management and various federal and state regulations.
  • Explain Regulations to citizens, review permit applications for compliance, and provide adequate interpretations.
  • Assist with flood response, damage assessments, and coordinate with other County departments and FEMA.
  • Review Letter of Map Revision (LOMR) and Conditional Letter of Map Revision (CLOMR) submissions for compliance and recommend approval to the Assistant County Engineer.
  • Review and coordinate projects with other departments.
  • Review construction documents for road, bridges, drainage structures, and building facilities projects related to Floodplain compliance and Development Permits.
  • Assist the Assistant County Engineer with the day-to-day operation of Permits & Construction staff, including the online permitting system, providing technical information, updating forms, and coordinating with the software vendor.
  • Conduct permit and project inspections for compliance with approved plans and permits.
  • Initiate enforcement actions if needed to ensure compliance with County regulations.
  • Communicate with residents and contractors about permit requirements.
  • Assist with selection of new employees, train employees, and recommend transfers or promotions.
  • Participate in activities and duties related to emergency management during a local state of disaster as directed by appropriate county managers.
