About The Position

This role is for a Special Procedures Tech-Float in Interventional Radiology at Atrium Medical Center. The responsibilities include coverage of both the AMC and MVH IR departments. The tech will independently perform Interventional Radiology (IR) procedures using proper techniques and administering contrast media. They will work within their scope of practice, adhering to certificate/licensure, in medication administration, equipment operation, and venipuncture. The role involves coordinating patient flow and department activities, exercising professional judgment to maintain equipment, and potentially performing procedures in other imaging modalities based on departmental needs. On-call responsibilities may also be required.

Requirements

  • Associate degree in Allied Health, with a major in Radiologic Technology.
  • CPR Certification required.
  • ARRT RT (R) registry required.
  • ODH licensure required.
  • 1 - 3 years of job-related experience as a Radiologic Technologist.
  • Proficient in Electronic Medical Record (EMR).
  • Proficient in Radiology Information System (RIS) and Image Storage.
  • Knowledge of advanced IR computer applications.
  • Radiation Safety knowledge.
  • Ability to work independently with little or no supervision.
  • Must possess effective verbal, written communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Must be able to push, pull or lift up to 50 pounds.
  • May be exposed to aggressive, violent behaviors from patients, family members, and/or visitors.
  • May be exposed to blood and body fluids, including those with tuberculosis, HIV, hepatitis, or body infestations.
  • Must be able to work under stressful conditions which may occur in emergency situations or with a heavy workload.
  • Exposed to ionizing radiation.

Nice To Haves

  • ACLS preferred.
  • Vascular-Interventional Radiography (VI) registry preferred.
  • 3 years of progressive Radiologic Technology experience.
  • Proven exemplary skills to productivity and teamwork.

Responsibilities

  • Independently performs Interventional Radiology (IR) procedures utilizing proper techniques and administration of contrast media.
  • Works under their scope of practice and in accordance with certificate/licensure in the administration of medications, operation of equipment, and venipuncture.
  • Coordinates patient flow and the activities of the IR department.
  • Exercises professional judgment in the performance of duties in order to maintain equipment in good working condition.
  • May perform procedures in other imaging modalities based on departmental needs.
  • May have on call responsibilities.
  • Performs IR procedures of diagnostic quality as ordered by the referring physician and/or radiologist on patients of all ages according to established protocols.
  • Obtains clinical history and data for correlation with the IR procedure.
  • Implements screening and safety measures in accordance with prescribed IR policies / procedures. Performs daily and weekly QC as required.
  • Prepares and administers contrast media to the patient according to policy. Practices sterile techniques.
  • Assists Radiologist in interventional radiology procedures and in performing medical treatment during emergency situations.
  • Coordinates patient care with other areas in order to optimize patient time and satisfaction.
  • Assesses learning needs and educates patients/families regarding procedures based on individual needs. Thoroughly educates patients about exam.
  • Ensures that all records, files and reports are properly recorded as required, performs clerical duties when necessary, verifies a signed physician order is received and corresponds with the billed procedure.
  • Maintains knowledge of the locations and operation of all emergency equipment in the unit.
  • Follows radiation safety policies and procedures.
