About The Position

The Special Procedures and Cath Lab Technologist will assist the Licensed Practitioner in the completion of fluoroscopic and specialized interventional and Neuro-Interventional procedures while using sterile technique. They prepare, administer and document activities related to medications and radiation exposure in accordance with federal and state laws, regulations or facility policy. The role involves performing high quality diagnostic vascular laboratory examinations using ultrasound and physiologic testing equipment to evaluate the cerebrovascular, peripheral arterial, and peripheral venous systems. The technologist prepares patients for procedures by explaining them and providing instructions to gain cooperation and minimize anxiety. They also review patient information in the hospital electronic medical record, enter preliminary reporting, and document critical findings. The position requires adherence to all department and facility policies, including those related to safety, infection control, and patient confidentiality. The technologist must demonstrate proficiency in performing non-invasive vascular exams and possess knowledge of vascular anatomy, exam procedures, interpretation criteria, and correlation of results with other hospital procedures.

Requirements

  • Certification and Registration with ARRT (American Registry of Radiologic Technologists) or Cardiovascular Credentialing International (CCI)
  • BLS Basic Life Support – American Heart Association (required prior to direct patient care)
  • 1 year experience in radiology with surgery experience in use of CR

Responsibilities

  • Assist the Licensed Practitioner in the completion of fluoroscopic and specialized interventional and Neuro-Interventional procedures using sterile technique.
  • Prepare, administer, and document activities related to medications and radiation exposure in accordance with federal and state laws, regulations, or facility policy.
  • Perform high quality diagnostic vascular laboratory examinations using ultrasound and physiologic testing equipment to evaluate the cerebrovascular, peripheral arterial, and peripheral venous systems.
  • Prepare patients for procedures, including explaining the procedure and providing instructions.
  • Contact referring physician (or other appropriate medical personnel) for clarification prior to performing an exam if there is a suspicion that the exam order is incorrect.
  • Utilize the hospital electronic medical record to review patient information, enter preliminary reporting, and document any critical findings in accordance with department policy.
  • Complete assigned tasks in a time frame appropriate for the situation.
