About The Position

Houston Classical Charter School is seeking a Special Populations Fellow for the 2026-2027 academic year. This role is crucial in supporting the school's mission to provide a rigorous, high-quality education to all scholars, including those with diverse abilities and emergent bilingual learners. Fellows will collaborate closely with Special Education teachers, Emergent Bilingual fellows, and general education teachers to offer targeted academic, language, and behavioral support, fostering an environment where all scholars feel seen, supported, and positioned for success.

Nice To Haves

  • Prior experience working with SPED or Emergent Bilingual scholars (classroom, tutoring, camp, or similar) strongly preferred.
  • Bilingual skills (Spanish-English or other languages) are highly preferred.
  • Knowledge of IDEA, TEA EL guidelines, and language acquisition best practices is a plus; training will be provided.

Responsibilities

  • Support Special Education teachers in delivering individualized instruction aligned with scholars' IEP goals.
  • Support emergent bilingual scholars during classroom instruction to reinforce language development and academic comprehension.
  • Provide one-on-one or small group academic support, both inside and outside the general education classroom, for scholars with disabilities and/or emergent bilingual scholars as needed.
  • Implement behavior intervention plans under the guidance of Special Education staff.
  • Help facilitate accommodations and modifications in the classroom to ensure full access to the classical curriculum for both populations.
  • Assist in collecting and tracking scholar progress data, ensuring documentation is accurate and up-to-date.
  • Collaborate with classroom teachers to support inclusive practices and maintain a positive, well-managed learning environment.
  • Communicate regularly and professionally with families, helping keep them informed about scholar progress and needs, including translation support as needed.
  • Assist with clerical duties such as organizing scholar materials, copying instructional resources, and preparing modified assignments.
  • Supervise and support scholars during transitions, breakfast, lunch, recess, and dismissal.
  • Provide coverage for Special Education teachers when needed to ensure continuity of services.
  • Participate in regular coaching, observation, and feedback cycles with the Director of Special Populations.
  • Report to and receive guidance from the Director of Special Populations on cross-functional support priorities.
  • Perform all duties as assigned by the Instructional Leadership Team.
