About The Position

The Special Officer / Valet Driver is responsible for safeguarding public citizens, clients, employees, contractors, and visitors, as well as all client property. This is achieved by providing protective and security services for all work sites and lease-operated facilities and occupants. The role utilizes highly trained personnel, state-of-the-art technology, industry-wide security best practices, and strategic partnerships with the Maryland State Police Department (MSD), Federal Protection Service (FPS), and other protective services and law enforcement stakeholders. Security staff must conduct themselves professionally at all times, adhering to rules of professional conduct including avoiding offensive language or behaviors, treating others with respect, being courteous and helpful, and communicating openly with supervisors and coworkers. Officers must be in proper uniform throughout their duty tour and maintain their uniforms and accessories in a clean, neat, and serviceable manner. All duties must be performed safely and professionally, including operating vehicles safely, organizing and filing paperwork accurately, and working with law enforcement to maintain order.

Requirements

  • Possess a valid / current Maryland State Police Department-issued license to work as a Security Officer or Special Police Officer.
  • Ability to pass an enhanced criminal background check to be able to work around children.
  • Ability to pass firearms qualification (for Armed SPOs).
  • Ability to pass a drug test.
  • Ability to pass a medical screening / physical.
  • Ability to work, stand and walk extended hours (up to 12 hours at a time).
  • Ability to operate security screening equipment: metal detector, x-ray machines, monitor CCTV.
  • For motor vehicle operators: valid drivers license and clean MVR record.
  • Neat appearance and upkeep of uniform.
  • Excellent customer service skills.

  • Relevant training and/or certifications as required: CPR, AED, First Aid, Handcuffs, ASP/baton, firearms, OC Spray

Responsibilities

  • Conduct oneself in a professional manner while on-duty and while conducting business on behalf of USP Security at business, training, or social functions.
  • Avoid rude, offensive, or outrageous language or behaviors and refrain from ridicule and hostile or inappropriate jokes.
  • Treat coworkers, customers, contractors, and vendors with patience, respect, and consideration.
  • Be courteous and helpful to others at all times.
  • Communicate openly with supervisors, managers, and coworkers.
  • Be in proper uniform as prescribed in the contract at the beginning of their tour of duty and remain in proper uniform until the end of their full tour of duty.
  • Maintain uniforms, insignia, accessories, and equipment in a serviceable manner.
  • Perform all duties in a safe and professional manner.
  • Operate vehicles safely and responsibly.
  • Organize and file paperwork accurately and in a timely manner.
  • Arrest and detain violators as applicable and work in concert with local law enforcement to maintain and enforce law & order.
