Special Needs School Bus Driver

4Seasons Transportation
•Onsite

About The Position

Drive with Purpose. Make a Difference Every School Day. At 4Seasons Transportation, we're not your typical big yellow school bus. Our drivers go into the community in small buses, and pick up students with special needs right at their door, driving a smaller group of kids each day. You'll become a familiar, trusted part of each child's daily routine, and the friendly, steady face that starts and ends their school day. For many of our students, a predictable routine and a driver they know make all the difference. We're looking for someone who understands that and wants to build real relationships with the kids and families they serve.

Requirements

  • Valid Alberta Class 5 driver's licence (we'll help you upgrade to Class 4)
  • 3+ years of driving experience in Canadian winter and snow conditions
  • Clean driving record: no at-fault accidents and recent demerit points
  • Availability for both shifts, Monday to Friday, for the full school year (ideally)
  • Ability to move around the bus easily, climb steps, and lift and carry up to 50 lbs
  • Successful background check and driver's abstract
  • Ability to pass a pre-employment drug and alcohol test. This is a safety-sensitive role with zero tolerance for THC (cannabis) or recreational drugs

Nice To Haves

  • Compassionate, caring, and patient with children
  • Someone who understands how much routine and familiarity matter to kids with special needs
  • Calm and level-headed under pressure
  • Reliable and punctual, because students and families count on you
  • A safe, confident driver who takes safety seriously

Responsibilities

  • Safely drive your assigned school bus routes for students with special needs
  • Pick up and drop off students at their homes, becoming a consistent part of their daily routine
  • Complete daily pre-trip inspections, including lifting the hood and checking the engine compartment
  • Help students board and exit the bus, including those using wheelchairs or other mobility devices
  • Stay calm, patient, and caring in situations that can sometimes be stressful
  • Communicate respectfully with students, parents, and school staff

Benefits

  • Earn between $106-$116 per day variable based on your assigned route
  • Door-to-door routes with fewer students, so you get to know each child and family
  • Take-home bus, so there's no daily commute to a yard
  • Average of 4 hours of driving per day, split across a morning and an afternoon shift
  • Consistent schedule: Monday to Friday, with typical driving times between 7–9:30 am and 2–4:30 pm (plus a short pre-trip inspection before your morning run)
  • No evenings, weekends, statutory holidays, or summers
  • Paid training, mentorship, and referral bonuses
  • Wellness perks, including Saddledome season ticket access, IKEA breakfast days and Timmie Tuesdays
