About The Position

The YMCA of Greenville is a dynamic and rapidly growing association that seeks to strengthen the community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. It is the mission of the R.E.C.E.S.S. program to serve adults with disabilities by providing opportunities to socialize with peers, promoting healthy lifestyle habits through proper nutrition and exercise, fostering community involvement and service. Special Needs Program Aide is responsible for assisting the Special Needs Instructors in the classroom of adults with disabilities.

Requirements

Must be at least 21 years of age.
Possess a valid South Carolina Driver’s License with the ability to operate a 14 passenger mini-bus.
Some curriculum/course work in Special Education.
Minimum of one year of experience working with special needs individuals.
Must have loving & compassionate spirit.
Ability to assist in managing class room of at least 20 special needs adults.
Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and also work as a member of a team.

Responsibilities

Assist the teachers in presenting the R.E.C.E.S.S. program materials.
Assist in ensuring that there is proper oversight in classroom at all times.
Assist in maintaining safe and positive environment for students.
Assist in maintaining classroom ratios at all times.
Assist with mobility of students.
Operate a 14 passenger mini-bus.
Adhere to policies related to boundaries with consumers
Attend/complete required abuse risk management training
Adhere to procedures related to managing high-risk activities and supervising consumers
Follow mandated reporting requirements
Adhere to job specific abuse risk management responsibilities
