About The Position

The Pennsylvania State Ethics Commission is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Special Investigator for its Eastern Regional Office in Harrisburg. This role offers the opportunity to uncover facts, review evidence, and contribute to the agency's mission of promoting ethical government. The position involves conducting confidential investigations into potential violations of the Ethics Act, requiring curiosity, creativity, professionalism, initiative, attention to detail, patience, and a strong interest in good government. The work includes gathering facts, reviewing evidence, and ensuring public officials adhere to their responsibilities.

Requirements

  • Bachelors Degree in Accounting, Finance, Criminology, or any other relevant field; OR three years experience conducting or assisting with auditing, fraud, internal theft, or administrative investigations.
  • Willing and able to work in Dauphin County, PA.
  • Willing and able to perform occasional intrastate and/or overnight travel.
  • Able to perform essential job functions.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Knowledge of auditing, fraud, internal theft, and administrative investigative skills.
  • Experience in investigative public contact (reviewing and presenting records, correspondence, and documentation used in case prosecution, claim or credit approval, or debt collection).
  • Strong written and oral communication skills.

Responsibilities

  • Collect and evaluate evidence and prepare it for presentation to supervisors and attorneys.
  • Conduct investigations into suspected violations of the Ethics Act.
  • Seek out and contact complainants and witnesses to obtain information.
  • Obtain and examine personal and public records including deeds, contracts, and financial documents.
  • Interview respondents and witnesses to gain statements and admissions.
  • Prepare reports that document investigative activity and findings.
