About The Position

Special Event Staff are responsible for assisting with the planning, preparation, implementation, and cleanup of Park District special and seasonal events. This position helps ensure events are safe, organized, welcoming, and enjoyable for participants and patrons of all ages. Work assignments, hours, and event dates vary based on Park District needs.

Requirements

  • Minimum age of 16 years.
  • Must obtain CPR/AED/First Aid certification within two (2) months of hire.
  • Must successfully complete the Park District's background screening process.
  • Strong customer service and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work effectively with patrons and participants of varying ages and abilities.
  • Ability to follow directions and work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
  • Ability to maintain a positive, professional, and helpful demeanor during events.
  • Ability to recognize and report safety concerns.
  • Ability to exercise sound judgment and respond appropriately to routine and emergency situations.
  • Ability to adapt to changing event needs and priorities.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality when handling participant or other sensitive information.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous experience working with patrons of various ages preferred.
  • Previous recreation, special event, customer service, childcare, or related experience preferred.
  • Ability to communicate tactfully and effectively with patrons, participants, families, coworkers, and supervisors.
  • Ability to follow event plans, instructions, and safety procedures.
  • Knowledge of event supplies, materials, equipment, and activity resources preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with the preparation, setup, operation, and cleanup of Park District special and seasonal events.
  • Follow event plans, schedules, procedures, and assigned responsibilities to support successful event operations.
  • Assist with activities and provide appropriate support and supervision to event participants.
  • Interact professionally and courteously with patrons, participants, families, vendors, volunteers, and Park District staff.
  • Prepare, organize, distribute, and clean up supplies, materials, equipment, and activity areas needed for events.
  • Monitor event areas and report safety concerns, facility issues, incidents, or other concerns to the appropriate Park District supervisor.
  • Follow all Park District policies, procedures, safety practices, and event-specific instructions.
  • Comply with the Illinois Abused and Neglected Child Reporting Act and applicable mandatory reporting requirements when working with or around minors.
  • Assist with maintaining a safe, clean, and well-organized event environment.
  • Complete accident and incident reports as required.
  • Attend required training or staff meetings.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Recreation Supervisor or Superintendent of Recreation.
