About The Position

The Mount Mansfield Unified Union School District is seeking an energetic special educator with a love for working with neuro-diverse students who have unique educational needs to join a dynamic team. In this role, you will develop pathways for students to access curriculum, in ways that honor student voice and choice, and meet students’ individual needs. This individual must enjoy working in a collaborative model as part of a creative and hard-working team (including building staff and mental health providers) to provide academic and social emotional education to students in a non-traditional environment.

  • Knowledge of neuro-diverse learning profiles
  • An understanding of Universal Design for Learning principles and the ability to implement UDL effectively within a classroom setting
  • Effective in supporting general education teachers with modified curriculum
  • The ability to successfully de-escalate and support students in crisis, resolve conflict and handle stress.
  • Knowledge and understanding of Literacy development and structured literacy instruction
  • Knowledge and understanding of Mathematical development and instruction
  • The ability to modify the curriculum to meet the needs of a wide variety of students
  • Knowledge of special education rules and regulations.
  • A confident and calm demeanor and fantastic sense of humor!
  • Ability to design and implement effective Project-Based Learning units
  • Familiarity with behavior management techniques such as Crisis Prevention and Intervention, Zones of Regulation, Collaborative Problem Solving, Life Space Crisis Intervention, Restorative Practices, Responsive Classroom, etc.
  • Successful applicants will be invested in the success of every learner and expected to engage in continuing capacity building to support diverse learners.
