The Special Education Teacher is responsible for collaborating with the classroom team, behavioral specialists, occupational, speech, and physical therapists, school districts, and families to develop, implement, and monitor effective, individualized academic and behavioral programming for students. Other responsibilities include: Identifies students’ needs, based on assessment and prior reports and determines appropriate goals and educational activities based on these needs. Develops individualized strategies and interventions when working with students. Appropriately uses available curricula resources at the Children’s Institute. Utilizes appropriate and professional skills and judgment when assisting students. Utilizes appropriate behavior management skills. Develops specific and appropriate classroom management plans. Plans and implements small and large group instruction. Mains a regular schedule of communication with families regarding classroom activities and student performance. Most tasks require oral communication, visual and hearing perception, and the ability to get around the classrooms, cafeteria, gym, campus, etc. The ability to keep up with running children and/or to lift, position or assist with lifting students is essential to perform this task.
