About The Position

The Special Education Teacher will be responsible for developing and implementing Individualized Educational Program (IEP) plans for students, coordinating special education services, and serving as the primary contact for parents. This role involves creating instruction programs aligned with IEP objectives, utilizing effective instructional strategies, and ensuring students have access to curricula through accommodations and modifications. The teacher will conduct ongoing assessments, provide or supervise personal care, and create a positive classroom environment. Collaboration with the BCBA Team Leader and related service providers is essential for student development. The position requires maintaining open communication with all stakeholders and staying informed about special education regulations. Participation in professional development and maintaining required documentation are also key aspects of the role.

Requirements

  • Bachelor degree required.
  • DESE certification in Teaching Moderate Disabilities Prek-8 or Severe Disabilities all levels required.

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s degree preferred.
  • Experience working with students with disabilities preferred.
  • Experience with Applied Behavior Analysis preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement annual Individualized Educational Program (IEP) plans for students.
  • Coordinate the delivery of special education services in each student's IEP.
  • Serve as the primary contact for the parent.
  • Develop instruction programs aligned to students IEP objectives.
  • Plan and use appropriate instructional and learning strategies, activities, materials, and equipment.
  • Provide the necessary accommodations and modifications for students to access curricula.
  • Conduct ongoing assessments of student achievement through data collection, formal and informal testing.
  • Use assessment results to adjust individual learning plans.
  • Provide or supervise personal care, medical care, and feeding of students as stated in IEP and or Health Care Plan.
  • Create classroom environment conducive to learning and appropriate for the physical, social, and emotional development of students.
  • Implement behavior support plans and collaborate with BCBA Team Leader to aid students’ development of adaptive skills.
  • Consult with district related service providers and outside resource people regarding education, social, medical, and personal needs of students.
  • Establish and maintain open communication by conducting conferences with parents, students, administrators and related service providers.
  • Keep informed of and comply with federal, state, district, and school regulations and policies for special education teachers.
  • Participate in staff meetings and professional development activities to improve job-related skills.
  • Complete and maintain, required documentation including data collection, progress reports, evaluations, incident reports and other documents required.
  • Provide instructional direction to paraprofessional support staff: assigns activities, provide guidance and instructional oversight.
  • Contribute to and support school and collaborative goals.
