About The Position

Devereux Arizona’s Residential Treatment Center (RTC) provides intensive, 24-hour support for youth aged 7 to 17, who are experiencing serious emotional, behavioral, and mental health challenges. In a structured, therapeutic environment, we combine clinical expertise with compassionate, trauma-informed care to help youth heal, grow and build a brighter future. The RTC features dormitories, an accredited K-12 school, food services, 24/7 on-site nursing, and specialized therapy and clinical services. The Special Education Teacher job duties include working with students on social/communication skills, coping mechanisms, verbal/physical aggression, and emotional/behavioral challenges that impact overall functioning. This role involves developing lesson plans and proficiently delivering curriculum using available digital teaching methods and educational models that are aligned with state standards, assessing student performance objectives on a regular basis and providing progress reports as required. The teacher will align classroom content within the Arizona State Standards and Common Core Standards, as well as collaborate with teaching colleagues to plan, facilitate, and teach highly effective literacy instruction. The classroom structure features low student-teacher ratios, with class sizes ranging from 8-12 students and a 6:1 student-to-staff ratio, including 1-2 direct care professional staff members in the classroom for additional support. Teachers have immediate access to school support staff, teaching materials and supplies, and a state of the art database with tracking capabilities to help with data accumulation. This is a year-round school position with approximately 225 instructional/grading/in-service days, 35 preset holiday break days, 19 additional float days, and accumulated sick time. The number of days are subject to change with the school year. Provide direct in-classroom instruction (we are not teaching virtually/online).

Requirements

• Bachelor’s Degree in relevant field
• Arizona Special Education Certification required
• Ability to attend full time new hire orientation Mon-Fri 8:30am-5pm (paid)
• Must be 21 years of age or older (per licensing standards)
• Drug test within 24hrs of offer w/ negative results
• Pre-employment Physical and Job Demand Assessment
• Valid Arizona Driver's License & pass DMV 36-month history check
• Current Arizona Fingerprint Clearance Card with no restrictions (or eligibility to obtain with no restrictions).

Nice To Haves

• One (1) year experience teaching in a Special Education classroom preferred
• Understanding of learning theories related to working with multiple handicapped individuals
