Position Details: Title: Special Education Teacher Location: Forest Lake, MN Duration: Start Date: August 31, 2026 End Date: June 4, 2027 Onsite/Virtual: Onsite Position Type: Contract Working Hours: 7:15 AM - 3:15 PM, from Monday to Friday Student Age Group: 9th-12th Grade

Requirements

  • Valid Minnesota Special Education Teaching License in one or more of the following areas: EBD (Emotional or Behavioral Disorders), ASD (Autism Spectrum Disorders), ABS (Academic Behavioral Strategist).
  • Experience working with at-risk students, preferably at the secondary level.
  • Strong experience and skills in behavior support and management.
  • Strong collaboration and communication skills.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary school team.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience working with high school students is preferred.
  • The district may be able to support an Out-of-Field Licensure Placement for qualified candidates who do not currently hold the exact required license.

Responsibilities

  • Provide specialized instruction and educational support to students in grades 9-12.
  • Develop, implement, and monitor Individualized Education Programs (IEPs).
  • Adapt curriculum and instructional strategies to meet individual student needs.
  • Provide effective behavioral and classroom management support.
  • Work with students who may have emotional, behavioral, developmental, or other specialized learning needs.
  • Monitor student academic, behavioral, and social-emotional progress.
  • Collaborate with general education teachers, special education staff, administrators, counselors, and related service providers.
  • Maintain accurate student records and required special education documentation.
  • Participate in IEP meetings, staff meetings, and other school-related activities.
  • Communicate effectively with families regarding student progress and educational needs.
  • Promote a safe, supportive, and inclusive learning environment.
