About The Position

Pilgrim Area Collaborative is a public educational collaborative that serves students with a wide range of disabilities from primary through post-secondary levels from all over the South Shore. We have an anticipated vacancy a Special Education Teacher to work in our SLC High School/Transitional programs for the 2026-27 School Year. This is a full-time position to start August 31, 2026. There is an optional ESY Program for summer employment as well.

Requirements

  • Appropriate Massachusetts certification in Special Education (Moderate Disabilities and/or Severe Disabilities licensure).

Nice To Haves

  • Prior experience working with high school aged/young adults with disabilities is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Meets and instructs assigned classes in location and at a time designated.
  • Develops and maintains a classroom environment conducive to effective learning.
  • Prepares for classes assigned and shows written evidence of preparation upon request of PAC Executive Director.
  • Encourages students to set and maintain standards of classroom behavior.
  • Employs a variety of instructional techniques and instructional media consistent with the needs and capabilities of the individual student group involved.
  • Strives to implement by instruction and action the Collaborative’s philosophy of education and instructional goals and objectives.
  • Takes all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
  • Evaluates student progress on a regular basis.
  • Maintains accurate and complete records as required by law, Collaborative policy, and administrative regulation.
  • Assists in upholding and enforcing school rules, administrative regulations and Board policy.
  • Makes provision for being available to students and parents for education-related purposes outside the instructional day.
  • Attends and participates in faculty meetings.
  • Cooperates with other members of the staff in planning instructional goals, objectives and methods.
  • Assists in the selection of books, equipment, and other instructional materials.
  • Accepts a share of the responsibility for co-curricular activities as assigned.
  • Works to establish and maintain open lines of communication with students and their parents concerning both academic and behavioral progress.
  • Establishes and maintains cooperative working relations with others.
  • Provides for his/her own professional growth through an ongoing program of reading, workshops, seminars, conferences, and/or advanced course work at institutions of higher learning.
  • Any and all other duties to fulfill responsibilities as Teacher of Special Needs.
