About The Position

Georgia Fugees Academy Charter School (GFACS) is seeking a Special Education Teacher for grades 6-12 who is deeply committed to the Fugees Family, Inc. mission and willing to exceed expectations to support students, families, and staff. This is a 10-month, exempt position reporting to the School Leader. While the program starts at the middle school level, instruction begins with Kindergarten-level material, as most Fugees Academy students enter middle school significantly below grade level.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in education, special education, or a related field.
  • Knowledge of IEP development, special education compliance, progress monitoring, accommodations, modifications, and inclusive instructional practices.
  • Strong communication skills.

  • Ability to work collaboratively with teachers, families, service providers, and school leadership.
  • Excellent command of the English language with a passion for supporting expressive language in non-native speakers.

  • Commitment to building deep, authentic relationships with students and families.
  • Duties and expectations carried out in a positive, productive, accurate, and punctual/on-time manner.

Nice To Haves

  • A valid Georgia teaching certificate in Special Education.
  • Experience working in a charter school, Title I school, or urban school setting.
  • Experience with Go-IEP, Infinite Campus, progress monitoring tools, MTSS, and Georgia special education procedures.

Responsibilities

  • Provide direct and indirect services to students with disabilities in accordance with their Individualized Education Programs (IEPs).
  • Deliver specially designed instruction.
  • Support students in both inclusion and small-group settings.
  • Monitor student progress toward IEP goals.
  • Maintain accurate documentation of services and progress.
  • Collaborate with general education teachers to implement accommodations, modifications, behavior supports, and instructional planning.
  • Participate in IEP meetings, eligibility meetings, reevaluations, and manifestation determination reviews.
  • Maintain compliance with IEP timelines.
  • Collect and analyze student data.
  • Communicate regularly with families.
  • Support testing accommodations.
  • Ensure all services are documented accurately and consistently.
