About The Position
Join a supportive primary school special education program serving a small, self-contained classroom of students with autism and developmental delays. This full-school-year contract role works with approximately 8–12 students, including some non-verbal learners, and provides individualized instruction, behavioral support, and daily living assistance in a structured classroom environment. The teacher will lead instruction and IEP implementation while working closely with paraprofessionals and other school staff. This position requires a teacher who is comfortable supporting students through behavioral outbursts, using de-escalation strategies, and assisting with toileting when needed.
Requirements
- Valid Illinois Professional Educator License (PEL) with required Special Education/LBS endorsement.
- Experience working with students with disabilities; self-contained classroom experience preferred.
- Experience supporting students with autism and/or developmental delays preferred.
- Ability to safely manage behavioral outbursts and use de-escalation strategies.
- Willingness and ability to provide toileting assistance.
- Working knowledge of IEPs and special education requirements.

Responsibilities

- Adapt curriculum and instruction to individual learning needs.
- Track student progress and use data to adjust instruction.
- Manage behavioral outbursts and provide appropriate de-escalation support.
- Assist students with toileting and other required daily living needs.
- Collaborate with paraprofessionals, teachers, and related school staff.
- Communicate with families regarding student progress and concerns.
- Maintain required special education documentation and student records.
