About The Position

Vicksburg Junior High School is seeking a Special Education Teacher to instruct individuals and groups in special education skill areas. The role involves planning curriculum, lessons, and teaching methods, as well as evaluating student progress and maintaining the classroom environment. This position is responsible for student safety, well-being, and work output.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university.
  • Possession of (or eligible for) a valid regular Mississippi teaching certificate (ENDORSEMENT IN SPED).
  • Ability to read and interpret documents.
  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
  • Ability to speak effectively with groups of parents/community or employees of the District.
  • Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume.
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
  • Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff and community.
  • Ability to speak clearly and concisely both in oral and written communication.
  • Ability to perform duties with awareness of all district requirements and Board of Education policies.

Responsibilities

  • Instructs individuals and groups in special education skill areas.
  • Plans curriculum, lessons, and special ed programs and teaching methods.
  • Evaluates student progress based on papers submitted, test scores and observation.
  • Monitors students progress in and outside special ed room.
  • Maintains physical environment of the classroom.
  • Maintains contact with parents of students.
  • Evaluates student progress based on work output and observation, determines goals, objectives and directions.
  • Prepares report cards, educational records, IEPC forms, classroom observation records, and other forms.
  • Directly responsible for the safety, well-being and work out- put of students.
