About The Position

The Laramie County School District #1 is seeking a Special Education Teacher to provide support to the instructional process. This role involves facilitating student success in academic areas, supervising students, developing and delivering lesson plans, collaborating with staff, and communicating with parents regarding student progress. The Special Education Teacher will adapt classroom work to meet individualized learning plans, administer developmental and subject-specific assessments, advise students and parents on progress and strategies, and monitor student behavior and progress to ensure a safe and optimal learning environment. This position also involves participating in the development of student IEPs, attending various meetings, preparing records, reporting incidents, and responding to emergency situations and inquiries. The role requires collaboration with other teachers, school personnel, parents, and community resources to improve student outcomes and achieve classroom objectives. The Special Education Teacher will also direct student teachers, paraprofessionals, volunteers, and student workers, and support classroom teachers in curriculum implementation. This position reports to the Building Principal.

Requirements

  • Bachelors degree in job-related area.
  • Appropriate Wyoming State Department of Education Certificate, endorsement and Highly Qualified Status
  • Criminal Justice Fingerprint/Background Clearance

Responsibilities

  • Adapts classroom work for the purpose of providing students with instructional materials that address individualized learning plans within established lesson plans.
  • Administers developmental testing programs, subject specific assessments, etc. for the purpose of assessing student competency levels and/or developing individual learning plans.
  • Advises parents and/or legal guardians of student progress for the purpose of communicating expectations of student achievements, developing methods for improvement and/or reinforcing classroom goals in the home environment.
  • Advises students for the purpose of improving performance, health status, problem solving techniques and a variety of personal issues.
  • Assesses student progress toward objectives, expectations, and/or goals for the purpose of providing feedback to students, parents and administration.
  • Collaborates with instructional staff, instructional groups, other school personnel, parents and a variety of community resources for the purpose of improving the overall quality of student outcomes and achieving established classroom objectives in support of the school improvement plan.
  • Demonstrates methods required to perform classroom and/or subject specific assignments for the purpose of providing an effective program that addresses individual student requirements.
  • Directs student teachers, paraprofessionals, volunteers and/or student workers for the purpose of providing an effective classroom program and addressing the needs of individual students.
  • Instructs students for the purpose of improving their success in academics through a defined course of study.
  • Manages student behavior for the purpose of providing a safe and optimal learning environment.
  • Monitors students in a variety of educational environments (e.g. classroom, playground, field trips, halls, lunchroom, commons, etc.) for the purpose of providing a safe and positive learning environment.
  • Monitors student progress towards goals for the purpose of making adjustments that ensure student success.
  • Participates in the development of student IEPs measurable goals and objectives for the purpose of ensuring student access to the District Curriculum and instruction on State standards and benchmarks.
  • Participates in a variety of meetings, workshops, and seminars (e.g. professional, staff, department, IEP, etc.) for the purpose of conveying and/or gathering information required to perform functions.
  • Prepares and maintains a variety of written and/or electronic materials and records (e.g. grades, attendance, anecdotal records, IEPs, evaluations, etc.) for the purpose of documenting student progress and meeting mandated requirements.
  • Reports incidents (e.g. fights, suspected child abuse, suspected substance abuse, etc.) for the purpose of maintaining personal safety of students, providing a positive learning environment and adhering to Education Code and school policies.
  • Responds to emergency situations for the purpose of resolving immediate safety concerns and/or directing to appropriate personnel for resolution.
  • Responds to inquiries from a variety of sources (e.g. other teachers, parents, administrators, etc.) for the purpose of resolving issues, providing information and/or direction.
  • Supports classroom teachers for the purpose of assisting them in the implementation of established curriculum and/or individual student plans.
  • Performs other related duties, as assigned, for the purpose of ensuring the efficient and effective functioning of the work unit.
