About The Position

This role focuses on monitoring student learning and providing academic instruction by implementing the curriculum with fidelity and using data to drive instruction. The teacher will create a positive, structured learning environment that upholds the school's core values and high expectations. A key aspect is developing a classroom environment conducive to learning and appropriate for the physical, social, and emotional development of students with significant trauma backgrounds. The position involves planning and utilizing effective instructional interventions, strategies, materials, and equipment to add educational value for each student, including those who are ESL, GT, or at-risk. Lesson plans must be aligned with the curriculum and include differentiated instruction based on student strengths and learning styles. Effective classroom management based on pedagogical practice is essential. The role also requires a commitment to professional growth, active participation in meetings and professional development, and engagement in extracurricular activities. Effective communication with students, families, and colleagues is crucial. The teacher will monitor IEP goals, objectives, modifications, and accommodations, incorporating them into daily lessons and developing quarterly IEP progress notes. Ensuring fall/spring progress monitoring in reading and math, and engaging families in their children's education through relationship building and regular communication are also key responsibilities.

Requirements

Foundational educational experience with a minimum of 0-2 years experience in academia in K-12, charter or other non-traditional schools.
A demonstrated solid track record of providing the academic learning that ensures excellence in curriculum, teaching, research, advocacy and public outreach.
Capacity for intellectual, physical and social development of at-risk youth, through a comprehensive program that promotes academic excellence and prepares its students for success in school and in life.
Bachelor’s Degree in Education/Closely Related – Required
Teacher Certification - completed or in process
Valid driver’s license and registered/inspected vehicle – Required

Nice To Haves

Master’s Degree in Special Education – Preferred
Rhode Island certification as a special education teacher – Preferred
ESL / ELL certificate or endorsement

Responsibilities

Prepare lesson plans aligned with the set curriculum including differentiated instruction based on the students’ strengths and different learning styles.
Implement effective classroom management based on pedagogical practice.
Commit to professional growth, participating actively in department meetings, faculty meetings, and professional development initiatives.
Participate in the extracurricular activities hosted at Tides’ School, collaborate within the team, and meet all professional responsibilities.
Communicate effectively with students, families and colleagues.
Monitor IEP goals, objectives, modifications, accommodations, and incorporate into daily lessons.
Develop quarterly IEP progress notes.
Ensure fall/spring progress monitoring in reading and math.
Engage families in their children’s education by building relationships and maintaining regular communications.
