About The Position

To provide quality instructions and to meet the individual needs of the students in the areas of Adult Basic Education (ABE) and General Educational Diploma (GED). Additionally, to meet the standards defined under the Commonwealth’s statutes and program certification requirements.

Requirements

  • Demonstrated ability to facilitate other instructors.
  • Ability to engage students with special needs in one-on-one teaching of all the five subjects.
  • Ability to supervise students with special needs and aides in a classroom setting.
  • Ability to maintain accurate records.
  • Knowledge and experience of policy and procedure governing adult special education.
  • Working knowledge of all facets of the basic adult and special education field, adult literacy and computer software appropriate for program needs.
  • Demonstrated competency in the relevant field of current licensure.

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s degree with a major or minor in Special Education.
  • Experience teaching children/adults/youth with special needs in a correctional or alternative education setting.
  • Experience of policy and procedures governing special education.
  • Knowledge and experience in a correctional education classroom management.
  • Ability to supervise students with special needs and inmate aides.
  • Demonstrated ability to facilitate other instructors in the correctional facility.
  • Knowledge of policy and procedures governing special education.
  • Experience teaching adults and or youth with special needs in a correctional or alternative education setting.
  • Experience of Department of Corrections' institutional policies and procedures.
  • Ability to supervise students and inmate aides with special needs in a correctional facility.
