About The Position

Pediatric Developmental Services (PDS) is seeking a Special Education Teacher to work in a school in Trenton, New Jersey. The role focuses on helping K–12 students reach their potential in a positive school environment. The teacher will develop and carry out individualized education plans, prepare lesson plans, monitor and report on student progress, and collaborate with school staff, families, and on-site therapists. PDS provides teachers and pediatric therapists to public school districts, charter schools, and communities, and offers support and a tailored mentorship program to its therapists.

Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field.
Experience working with K–12 children.

Responsibilities

Create and execute an Individualized Education Plan (IEP) for each student in the teacher’s care.
Communicate with staff and family members about each student’s progress and challenges.
Prepare detailed lesson plans and submit them to administrators for approval.
Participate in IEP meetings scheduled by the school.
Use individualized reinforcement techniques to support each student’s progress.
Invite family members to participate in each student’s educational progress.
Create and distribute quarterly progress reports.
Confer with the on-site therapist about student disciplinary and behavioral issues.
Create a safe, productive classroom environment.
