About The Position

The Special Education Teacher will work under the supervision of the building principal and the district’s special programs director. This role is responsible for teaching students, providing, designing, and adapting instructional programs for the special educational needs of identified students in a variety of settings, and case management of student files. The teacher must work cooperatively with other staff to provide students with a well-planned, organized instructional program utilizing data and evidence-based practices. This individual is also responsible for directing and training Instructional Assistants.

Requirements

  • Current Oregon Special Education Teaching License
  • Experience with meeting the specialized needs of students with a range of mild to moderate disabilities
  • Ability to provide appropriate instruction to students based on diagnosed needs
  • Skills in using data to make instructional decisions
  • Demonstrated behavior management techniques
  • Proficient in developing and implementing effective behavior intervention plans
  • Understand and adhere to special education law requirements
  • Ability to manage a workload to cover testing, placement, teaching, conferencing, and file management
  • Knowledge and experience with Response to Intervention (RtI)
  • Understanding of Common Core State Standards
  • Ability to communicate effectively and work cooperatively and collaboratively with colleagues, support staff, administrators, students, parents, and patrons

  • Possession of or ability to obtain a current First Aid/CPR card

Responsibilities

  • Providing, designing and adapting instructional programs for the special educational needs of identified students in a variety of settings
  • Case management of student files
  • Utilizing data and evidence-based practices to provide students with a well-planned, organized instructional program
  • Directing and training Instructional Assistants
  • Writing, implementing, and following up on IEPs for specific students in need of specialized instruction
  • Facilitating IEP meetings
  • Conveying to parents and teachers the students’ learning abilities and needs
  • Providing direction and training to instructional assistants who are assigned to assist with student instruction
  • Meeting the Junction City School District Standards of Competent Teacher Performance and the Oregon Standards for Professional Educators
