About The Position

Casa Pacifica's Non-Public School (NPS) serves children and youth ages 8 through 18 who are placed in the Residential Treatment Program or Assessment, Stabilization, and Permanency Center, as well as day students from surrounding communities. The NPS is fully certified with commendations by the State Department of Education. Under the direction of the Sr. Director of Education/Principal, the Special Education Teacher will instruct special education students individually and in small groups in accordance with Casa Pacifica's policies and procedures. This role involves developing and implementing IEP goals, assessing students, and coordinating programs to increase independence and functioning in society, socially, vocationally, and academically.

Requirements

  • Valid California Special Education Credential.
  • Bachelor's degree in relevant field.
  • Three to five years related experience and/or training with severely emotionally disturbed students.
  • Experience in academic testing (PIAT, WRAT) or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Ability to run a Special Education classroom located at a school site.
  • Interns will be considered.

Nice To Haves

  • Master's degree preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Design and implement curriculum and lesson plans for individualized and group instruction.
  • Schedule instructional periods and assess student progress.
  • Teach core academic subjects in alignment with common core standards, next-generation science standards, and California frameworks.
  • Instruct in other academic areas related to student grade level, including math competencies, student computer proficiency, writing skills, and art media.
  • Instruct students with emotional disturbances using individualized programming to implement and achieve IEP goals.
  • Serve as case manager.
  • Participate as a member of IEP teams and attend IEP meetings.
  • Provide input to IEP goals, conduct pre- and post-assessments, and perform other data collection.
  • Prepare IEP reports and maintain interagency and district contacts regarding IEPs.
  • Plan and supervise curriculum-related field trips to the community to enhance social skills and life skills related to instructional objectives.
  • Work with all educational agencies in order to transition students back to their home school districts, in accordance with the IEP process.
  • Collaborate with parents and provide parents with a written quarterly student progress report and quarterly IEP goals and objectives progress reports.
