About The Position

The Madison Metropolitan School District (MMSD) is hiring a full-time, cross-categorical Special Education Teacher for West High School for the 2026–2027 school year. This is a 1.0 FTE position with a 192-day contract. The minimum annual compensation is $53,525 under the 2026–2027 Teacher Salary Schedule, and the position is exempt. The teacher plans and delivers instruction that supports student growth and mastery of standards, using student backgrounds, interests, language, individual needs, and assessment information to shape instruction. The role includes adapting teaching methods and materials, assessing learning, providing feedback, adjusting instruction, and working with students, families, and colleagues to support student learning. MMSD seeks educators committed to high expectations, equity, anti-racism, cultural responsiveness, inclusion, collaboration, and continuous professional growth. This is a school-based role that is required to be in person unless otherwise directed by the building principal. Work may involve travel within the district and to off-site meetings, and may require evenings, nights, and some weekends. Hybrid flexibility may be available for a portion of the schedule depending on position and work-unit needs; this is discussed during the interview process. A bachelor’s degree and a Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction teaching license in Special Education are required. Applicants without an active Wisconsin license may be considered but must obtain and maintain the necessary license. The district does not provide financial support for continued education required to achieve certification. Official transcripts are required for formal employment. Applications are reviewed on a rolling basis, with fully licensed applicants considered before applicants who are not yet licensed.

  • Ability to perform work in indoor and outdoor environments throughout the year, including inclement weather and spaces without air conditioning or with uncomfortable or rapidly fluctuating temperatures.
  • Manual dexterity to complete general tasks while operating office equipment.
