About The Position

The Cedar Falls Community School District is seeking a Special Education Teacher to facilitate student transitions from high school to post-secondary living, learning, and working. This role will primarily support our 4+ Program, working with students who have met graduation requirements but continue to work on post-secondary transition goals. Additionally, this teacher will work with transition-age high school students and their IEP teams as they develop and implement transition plans. This is a .46 FTE Position.

Requirements

  • Hold a valid license, issued by the Iowa Board of Educational Examiners, endorsed for the position assigned.
  • Knowledge of IDEA transition requirements and the development of age-appropriate transition assessments.

Responsibilities

  • Manage a caseload of students focusing on independent living, vocational training, and community integration.
  • Partner with Cedar Falls High School (CFHS) staff to support students preparing for the shift to post-secondary living, learning, and working environments.
  • Design and manage transition-age Individualized Education Plans (IEPs) with a heavy emphasis on measurable post-secondary goals.
  • Coordinate and oversee community-based work experiences and functional skill development to ensure real-world readiness.
  • Diagnose, prescribe, evaluate, and guide student learning experiences, in concert with current goals and objectives; such functions to be performed as an individual teacher or in concert with other staff members.
  • Share responsibility for the development of curriculum, educational procedures, and student activities to be used in achieving goals and objectives.
  • Supervise all associates and volunteers who assist in serving students for whom the teacher is responsible.
  • Evaluate and assess student achievement and to use the information thus gained as a basis for developing additional educational strategies.
  • Provide for the care and protection of school property.
  • Participate in the district’s in-service training program.
  • Maintain cordial and cooperative working relations with colleagues.
  • Be responsible for such co-curricular matters and other duties beyond the regular classroom activities as may be determined by the building principal.
  • Provide comprehensive reports to the parents or guardians and the principal on the academic progress and development of each student.
  • Maintain good public relations and appropriate school-community and school-home working relationships.
  • Be flexible, energetic, innovative and imaginative in providing learning activities for students.
  • Recognize each student as an individual and to attempt to enhance the student’s self image.
  • Demonstrate competence in the Iowa Teaching Standards: Demonstrates ability to enhance academic performance and support for implementation of the school district’s student achievement goals.
  • Demonstrates competence in content knowledge appropriate to the teaching position.
  • Demonstrates competence in planning and preparing for instruction.
  • Uses strategies to deliver instruction that meet the multiple learning needs of students.
