About The Position

Genesee Lake School is seeking a Special Education Teacher to join their team in Oconomowoc. In this role, you will advocate for students, foster their independence, and design personalized learning environments where every learner thrives. The school maintains small class sizes (averaging 7 to 9 students) to allow for deep relationships, individualized attention, and visible results of your work.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Special Education, Elementary/Secondary Education, Human Services, or a related field (or anticipated graduation date).
  • State Teaching Certification in Special Education (or eligible for alternative/provisional licensure).
  • Strong communication, empathy, team leadership, and a commitment to trauma-informed, student-centered care.
  • Growth-oriented, adaptable, and eager to collaborate across multidisciplinary teams.

Responsibilities

  • Design and deliver creative, student-centered lessons using thematic units that build confidence, independence, and a strong sense of self-worth.
  • Serve as Case Manager for your caseload, facilitating IEP meetings and tracking growth through regular progress reporting.
  • Lead and direct your classroom support team—including Instructional Aides and Educational/Direct Support Professionals (ESPs/DSPs)—to create a unified learning environment.
  • Partner closely with clinical, behavioral, and interdisciplinary teams to implement Functional Behavior Assessments (FBAs) and Behavior Intervention Plans (BIPs).
  • Stay flexible in adapting teaching strategies to meet evolving student needs using supportive, agency-approved care and intervention techniques.
