About The Position

Dominion Care is seeking compassionate, collaborative, and committed Special Education Teachers to support Academy and TEC students with academic, behavioral, emotional, and physical challenges. This role is responsible for developing grade-level lesson plans and implementing daily academics for a class of no more than 10 students. The teacher will create the academic plan for the classroom and each student based on Virginia Standards of Learning (SOLs or ASOLs) and follow appropriate pacing and sequencing to meet the standards. The teacher will also follow strategies and interventions designed by the BCBA, Assistant Principal, Principal, or IEP Administrator to address challenging student behaviors or help with skill acquisition challenges. This position requires collaboration with school divisions and other service providers as needed.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in education, Special Education, or other related fields.
  • Be eligible or currently possess a Provisional or Full Virginia Teaching License in Special Education (general curriculum or other categories), or other licensed areas.
  • Experience leading classroom instruction of school-aged (K-12) students with disabilities.
  • Ability to lead and manage staff.
  • Ability to provide academic oversight and supervision.
  • Ability to provide direct academic instruction.
  • Ability to maintain a professional demeanor at all times.

Responsibilities

  • Design coherent instruction based upon knowledge of subject matter, students, the community, and curriculum goals.
  • Plan instruction to achieve desired IEP goals and objectives that reflect the Virginia Standards of Learning.
  • Assess individual, group, and program needs and select appropriate materials and resources to match the abilities and needs of all students.
  • Use a variety of assessment strategies and instruments to make both short-term and long-term instructional decisions to improve student learning.
  • Identify and communicate specific student performance expectations and document student learning gains using appropriate assessment instruments.
  • Differentiate instruction to meet diverse students’ needs.
  • Use comprehensive materials, technology, and resources that promote the development of critical thinking, problem solving, and performance skills.
  • Select, evaluate, and refine a variety of teaching methods and instructional strategies for the active engagement and improvement of student learning.
  • Actively implement a discipline policy that fosters a safe and positive environment for students and staff.
  • Manage classroom procedures to maximize academic learning time.
  • Establish and maintain rapport with students.
  • Create a supportive learning environment for all students that encourages social interaction, active engagement in learning, and self-motivation.
  • Use effective verbal, nonverbal, and media communication techniques to foster positive interactions in the classroom.
  • Develop partnerships with families to promote student learning at home and in the school.
  • Work collaboratively with staff, families, and community resources to support the success of a diverse student population.
  • Model professional, moral, and ethical standards as well as personal integrity in all interactions.
  • Take responsibility for and participate in a meaningful and continuous process of professional development that results in the enhancement of student learning.
