About The Position

As a Special Education Teacher at Learn4Life High School - Charleston, you will encourage, challenge, and help students grow in confidence and academics, enabling them to graduate high school regardless of their obstacles. The personalized learning model at Learn4Life High School places students at the center of its mission, with staff unified to achieve the best outcomes for all students. Teachers make a real difference by working one-on-one or through small group instruction to help students accomplish their individual goals. The Special Education Teacher will teach in a personalized instructional environment, collaborate with students and/or parents to determine and evaluate academic plans, and manage and provide services according to each student's Individual Education Plan (IEP). This role also involves responsibility for the compliance documents required for serving students with special needs.

  • Bachelors Degree from accredited college or university
  • Valid South Carolina Teaching Certificate with required special education endorsements

  • Ability to travel in performance of job duties is required

Responsibilities

  • Plan, organize and implement daily lessons in accordance with the approved curriculum
  • Conduct pre and post-testing using standardized tests for each student
  • As a part of a team, write and implement goals as outlined in each student's IEP
  • Responsible to manage a students behavior
  • Demonstrate competency in all subject areas
  • Participate in the identification of students with possible disabilities post intervention phase
  • Provide direct student instruction and promote a positive learning environment
  • Provide academic assessments
  • Analyze student data to prescribe remediation and enrichment as needed
  • Schedule and chair IEP meetings including 30 day review IEP meetings for all students
  • Meet special education timeline requirements as specified by State Education Code
  • Collaborate with general education teachers to ensure success of student
  • Work with Special Education Program Specialists and school support staff to support student instruction
  • Participate in authorized trainings, school events, and meetings
  • Maintain documentation of communications with students, families, and other services providers
  • Maintain documentation of daily activities
  • Complete reports and forms as required
  • Administrative duties, responsibilities, and activities may be assigned or changed from time to time
