Arthur Trudeau Memorial Center has been a trusted leader in supporting individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities. Through our Pathways Strategic Teaching Center, we deliver innovative education and treatment programs for children with autism and related disorders. Now, we’re looking for a passionate Special Education Teacher to join our team and help shape the future for the students we serve.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in special education required; must hold certification in All Grades Significant Intellectual Disability.
  • Minimum 2 years of experience working with young children with autism using ABA methods.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills to collaborate with families, school staff, and community partners.
  • Organized, flexible, and committed to providing individualized, compassionate education.
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs., engage in active classroom work, and obtain certification in the program’s crisis management system.
  • Must be able to deal with the broad range of needs presented by children with autism, including significant problem behaviors.
  • Work will often include sitting in small chairs or on the floor and require rapid movement (sometimes running) to address the safety and teaching needs of the children.
  • The employee must be able to lift up to 50 pounds and work with children in such a way as involves physical contact (particularly when there is a child safety need).
  • Employees must achieve certification in the crisis management system utilized by the program within the timeline established by the program.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience developing curriculum and training others in evidence-based practices is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and supervise the implementation of behavior and academic programs for students with autism.
  • Lead and mentor classroom staff including Behavior Technicians and Lead Behavior Technicians.
  • Participate in IEP development and student assessments.
  • Consult with school districts and families, providing guidance and training.
  • Facilitate student transitions, inclusive learning activities, and public school integration.
  • Support crisis management and maintain a safe, positive learning environment.
  • Evaluate staff performance and provide regular coaching and feedback.
  • Teaching self-care skills such as toileting.
  • Work in public school settings and the community.
  • Significant work with computers.
