About The Position

AZACS is seeking a Certified Special Education Teacher for the 26/27 school year at their Phoenix Main Campus, serving students in grades 4th-12th. This role operates under the supervision of the Campus Director. The teacher will manage a caseload of students, develop lesson plans, instruct students, evaluate performance, and promote academic achievement. Key responsibilities include differentiating instruction for diverse learners, collaborating with a team to support IEPs, and committing to professional development through workshops and coaching. The position involves working with students on the autism spectrum and those with other related neurodiversities within AZACS’s specialized learning environment, implementing a best-practice educational model to achieve optimal outcomes. Candidates should be willing to receive training in Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) strategies.

Requirements

  • Hold a special education teaching certificate.
  • Willingness to receive training and coaching in Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) strategies.
  • Maintain a valid Arizona IVP Fingerprint clearance card.
  • Valid Special Education Teaching Certification.
  • Bachelor’s Degree or higher.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience is preferred.
  • Experience managing and teaching a caseload of students with disabilities in a classroom learning environment.
  • At least 3 years of experience working with students with moderate to severe disabilities.
  • Experience and training in Applied Behavior Analysis(ABA) preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Manage a caseload of students.
  • Prepare lesson plans.
  • Instruct students.
  • Evaluate and monitor student performance.
  • Advance student achievement in the classroom.
  • Differentiate instruction for a variety of learners.
  • Work collaboratively with a team to plan and support instruction in accordance with students’ IEPs.
  • Demonstrate a commitment to professional development through didactic workshops and classroom coaching.
  • Support a caseload of students and work on a team to implement a best-practice educational model.
  • Direct, monitor, and mentor paraprofessionals and behavior specialists working with students who have disabilities.
  • Provide instructional and behavior support for students in the classroom.
  • Provide daily feedback to paraprofessionals and behavior specialists.
  • Guide general education and/or uncertified teachers in IEP implementation.
  • Weekly lesson planning using AZACS’s board-adapted curriculum.
  • Professional development for staff on accommodations, modifications, and implementation.
  • Analyze curriculum data to make instructional decisions.
  • Maintain ongoing student and parent communication.
  • Modification of materials for classrooms as needed.
  • Structured teaching planning, organizing, and implementing.
  • Staff communication/feedback.
  • Maintain substitute plans in case of absence.
  • Maintain flexibility when alternative staffing plans are implemented in case of staff absence.
  • Participate in all duties and responsibilities as appropriate for an AZACS faculty member.
  • Maintain knowledge of special education teaching methods, research, and best practices through professional development and study.
  • Develop Individualized Education Plans (IEPs) for caseload and attend all required student meetings.
  • Complete the required section of METs for students on your caseload.
  • Collect, analyze, and report data in a meaningful manner, including data for IEP goals, charter goals, checking for understanding, and lesson planning.
  • Celebrate the achievements and successes of students.
  • Regular and predictable attendance is considered an essential requirement of your position.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
