About The Position

Assabet Valley Collaborative (AVC) is seeking a Special Education teacher to join our team in our 18-22 Transition Program (Evolution). This role involves building meaningful connections with students, providing joyful and growth-oriented experiences, and collaborating with a team of professionals. The program focuses on preparing young adults for success as they transition to adulthood. AVC is an educational service agency in Metrowest/Central Massachusetts, offering various services including K-12 and post-graduate programs. The Evolution program serves young adults aged 18-22 with diverse cognitive, physical, and social-emotional needs. The teacher, working with a team including paraeducators, a counselor, a nurse, and related services providers, will serve a classroom of approximately 10-15 students.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree required.
  • Licensed or working toward licensure from MA DESE in Moderate or Severe Disabilities.
  • Valid driver's license, safe driving record, and ability to transport students in AVC vehicles (vans).
  • Experience working in schools, nonprofits, or human service organizations.

Nice To Haves

  • Master's Degree preferred.
  • Bilingual or multilingual is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Facilitate the learning of others by pushing their thinking, building their skills, and sparking their self-reflection and curiosity.
  • Provide positive reinforcement and behavioral supports to ensure student success.
  • Focus instruction on functional social and life skills, vocational and higher education training and support, and community-based learning opportunities.
  • Cultivate and facilitate communication between school and vocational sites.
  • Empower students to become problem solvers and independent decision makers.
  • Plan rigorous, meaningful instruction.
  • Utilize students' skill sets to support diverse learners in reaching their full potential.
  • Co-design and adapt a comprehensive curriculum to meet the daily and personalized learning needs of students through individual, small, and whole group activities.
  • Balance high academic and behavioral expectations with necessary accommodations and modifications.
  • Co-design and collaborate with families, sending districts, adult service agencies, employers, and in-home service providers.
  • Partner with students and stakeholders to develop, present, and implement team-drafted IEPs.
  • Provide ongoing supervision and coaching of paraeducators.
  • Work with team members to establish and implement student-centered and sustainable data systems to inform instruction and generate progress reports.
  • Conduct necessary assessments and compile assessment results of related service providers for 3-year re-evaluations.
  • Participate in required trainings and professional development.
  • Encourage and foster passion and enthusiasm for the work of the classroom.
  • Adhere to established federal, state, and local laws and regulations (FERPA, HIPAA, and IDEA).
  • Design, deliver, and adapt curriculum with a team to meet students’ needs.
  • Develop a comprehensive and accessible schedule that maximizes instructional time through individual, small group, and whole group activities.
