The Special Education Teacher (RISE) position is part of the Learners Excelling And Progressing (LEAP) program, which includes various settings such as a Lab/Resource setting, a Functional skills and modified curriculum classroom for students with mild/moderate disabilities (RISE), a Functional skills and modified curriculum classroom for students with severe/profound disabilities (LIFE), and a Classroom for students with emotional and behavioral concerns (ABLE). The job goal is to facilitate the appropriate academic, social, and emotional growth of students identified as Disabled under P.L. 101-476. The role involves meeting and instructing assigned classes, preparing lessons, participating in special education placement evaluations and IEP team meetings, maintaining student progress documentation, and providing an appropriate educational program. The teacher will cooperate with regular classroom teachers, employ various instructional techniques, and ensure student safety. Responsibilities also include attending faculty meetings, assisting with material selection and inventory, completing required paperwork, and maintaining open communication with students and parents. Professional growth is expected through ongoing reading, workshops, seminars, conferences, and advanced coursework. The teacher will create an effective classroom environment conducive to learning, guide the learning process towards IEP goals, establish clear objectives, and assist in implementing school policies. Maintaining emotional stability, physical health, personal appearance, and personality are also key aspects of the role.
