About The Position

This is an anticipated position for the 26/27 School Year, serving as a Special Education Teacher on Special Assignment. The role involves assisting in the supervision and monitoring of student needs, supporting the administrative team in special education processes and procedures, and overseeing the special education instructional program. The position also participates in staff, student, and parent activities.

Requirements

  • Must possess a Bachelor’s Degree.
  • Must possess or be eligible for a Virginia Teaching License with endorsements in Special Education.
  • Must possess a minimum of (5) years of special education teaching experience.
  • Communicate effectively.
  • Relate to and interact with a non-traditional and diverse student and employee population.
  • Strong leadership, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
  • Knowledge of special education laws, regulations, and best practices.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Possess knowledge of and be able to use relevant technology.
  • Serves as a role model.

Nice To Haves

  • Endorsement in Administration and Supervision PreK-12 preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in supervising and monitoring student needs.
  • Assist the administrative team in leadership roles that encompass special education processes and procedures.
  • Assist with the supervision of the special education instructional program.
  • Participate in staff, student, and parent activities.
  • Work effectively with peer leaders, supervisors, and administrators.
  • Respond to parent inquiries in a timely manner.
  • Provide leadership and guidance to special education teachers, paraprofessionals, and other staff.
  • Monitor the operation of special education programs and services.
  • Ensure compliance with state and federal regulations, including Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA).
  • Coordinate, facilitate, and/or participate in professional development and learning for site and district staff.
  • Provide technical assistance, modeling, observation, and feedback to teachers and staff.
  • Work closely with students, parents, and educators to develop and execute all special education related processes.
  • Assist with all special education meetings and ensure that all special education processes are implemented with fidelity.
  • Serve as a liaison between the special education department, school administration, parents, and other stakeholders.
  • Maintain accurate records and documentation related to special education programs and services.
  • Analyze data to monitor student progress and identify areas for improvement in special education programs.
  • Serve as a resource for principals, teachers, and other staff regarding special education practices and procedures.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
