About The Position

The Milford Public Schools is seeking a Special Education Teacher for the Middle School Life Skills Program at Harborside Middle School. This position is available ASAP. The successful candidate will provide specialized instruction to middle school students in a Life Skills program, with an emphasis on functional academics, communication, social-emotional development, daily living skills, self-advocacy, and independence. The teacher will collaborate with families, general education teachers, related service providers, paraeducators, and other school personnel to develop and implement individualized programs that support student growth and increased independence.

Requirements

Current CT Special Education certification (165 or 065) required.

Nice To Haves

Experience teaching in a Life Skills, Functional Academics, Adaptive Skills, or similar specialized program.
Experience working with students with Autism Spectrum Disorder and/or intellectual disabilities.
Knowledge of functional academics, adaptive/daily living skills, communication supports, and community-based instruction.
Experience with Discrete Trial Instruction (DTI), ABA, or other evidence-based instructional and behavioral practices.
Experience with AAC and/or assistive technology.
Strong collaboration, communication, organization, and problem-solving skills.

Responsibilities

Provide individualized, specially designed instruction aligned with students’ IEPs.
Develop, implement, and monitor IEPs in compliance with state and federal requirements.
Provide instruction in functional academics, daily living skills, communication, social skills, self-advocacy, and independence.
Create opportunities for students to apply skills in real-world and community-based settings.
Collect and analyze student data and monitor progress toward IEP goals.
Implement Behavior Intervention Plans and individualized behavioral supports in collaboration with District Behavior Analyst(s).
Collaborate with general education teachers and related service providers to support student access, inclusion, and progress.
Supervise, support, and provide direction to paraeducators working within the Life Skills program.
Communicate effectively with families, school staff, related service providers, and outside agencies.
Facilitate PPT meetings and participate in building and department initiatives as assigned.
Ensure students receive an appropriate educational program in their least restrictive environment.
