About The Position

Sankofa Montessori is seeking a Part-Time Special Education Teacher for the 2026-2027 school year. This role involves providing specialized instruction, case management, and consultation services to students with disabilities, ensuring compliance with federal and state special education requirements. The teacher will collaborate with various stakeholders to support student success. This is a 20-hour-per-week position with a flexible schedule determined in collaboration with the Manager of Student Support Services.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree (required)
  • Valid Georgia Special Education certification or eligibility (required)
  • Knowledge of IDEA, Georgia Special Education Rules, and IEP development
  • Experience providing resource or small-group instruction
  • Strong organizational, interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills

Responsibilities

  • Provide direct specialized instruction to students through one-on-one and small-group settings to implement Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) and support academic, behavioral, and social-emotional growth.
  • Serve as the case manager for assigned students by developing, implementing, and monitoring IEPs in compliance with IDEA, Georgia Department of Education regulations, and school policies.
  • Participate in eligibility, annual review, reevaluation, manifestation determination, and other special education meetings while collaborating with families and multidisciplinary team members.
  • Monitor student progress toward IEP goals, collect and analyze data, and use progress monitoring to inform instructional decisions.
  • Collaborate with classroom teachers to implement accommodations, modifications, specially designed instruction, and inclusive instructional practices.
  • Partner with related service providers, including speech-language pathologists, occupational therapists, school psychologists, and behavior specialists, to coordinate student services.
  • Maintain accurate, timely, and compliant special education records, including IEP documentation, progress reports, Medicaid documentation (if applicable), and other required records.
  • Support classroom teachers in addressing behavioral, academic, and social-emotional needs through coaching, consultation, and collaborative problem-solving.
  • Maintain confidentiality of student information and comply with all federal, state, and local regulations regarding special education services.
  • Communicate regularly with families regarding student progress, IEP implementation, and available supports.
  • Attend required professional development, Student Support Team meetings, and other school meetings consistent with the responsibilities of a part-time special education teacher.
  • Perform other duties as assigned that support the Student Support Services Department and the mission of Sankofa Montessori.
