About The Position

This role involves developing and implementing comprehensive individualized educational programs (IEPs) for students requiring case management. The teacher will implement academic and behavioral programs within a content/subject area where they are highly qualified and promote inclusion initiatives aligned with Woonsocket High School's goals.

Requirements

RIDE Certification in Special Education or willing to pursue an emergency certification
Previous experience as a Special Educator
Strong background in teaching science

Responsibilities

Provide a basic core program for identified students consistent with state education requirements and students’ IEP.
Develop and implement IEP goals and objectives based on evaluation results.
Guide the learning process toward the achievement of curriculum goals and establish clear objectives for all lessons, units, and projects.
Employ instructional methods and materials appropriate for accomplishing stated objectives.
Assess student accomplishments regularly and provide progress reports.
Assist administration in implementing policies governing student conduct and develop classroom rules and procedures.
Plan and supervise assignments of teacher assistant(s).
Provide social skills training for students to assist in forming positive relationships.
Recommend placement in the least restrictive environment in a timely fashion.
Provide instruction in all areas of students’ academic strengths and weaknesses.
Administer and score educational evaluations or reevaluations.
Complete appropriate special education records.
Consult with administrators, teachers, and parents regarding student problems.
Participate in eligibility team meetings and IEP meetings.
Provide appropriate materials to enable students to realize IEP goals and objectives.
May coordinate and supervise other special education services.
Confer frequently with parents and professional staff regarding educational, social, and adjustment problems.
Assist other professional staff in resolving unique educational, psychological, and/or discipline needs of students.
Assist students and/or parents in making realistic assessments of abilities and establishing educational and occupational goals.
Provide motivation to students who have difficulty attending or engaging in classroom activities.
Maintain professional competence through in-service education and professional growth activities.
Maintain accurate records for state reports.
Adhere to policies of confidentiality and use discretion regarding pupil data.
May communicate with outside agencies providing services to students or research available student services.
Participate in and conduct staff development activities.
Develop, monitor, and evaluate curriculum on an ongoing basis.
Make recommendations for supplies, equipment, and materials.
Assume responsibility for building duties as assigned.
Perform other duties as assigned by the Special Education Director or building principal.
